Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters has secured a substantial investment of ₹7,000 crore (C$1 billion) from the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments), marking a significant milestone for the company and the Indian digital infrastructure sector. This investment, which includes a 8.2% stake acquisition worth ₹4,000 crore (C$588 million), is a testament to CtrlS's market leadership, operational prowess, and growth trajectory. The partnership extends beyond equity; it involves a joint venture to develop hyperscale data centre campuses across India, with CPP Investments committing up to ₹3,000 crore (C$441 million) and holding a 48% equity stake, while CtrlS retains 52%.
This strategic alliance is poised to accelerate the development of next-generation data centre infrastructure in India, a country that is experiencing rapid digital transformation. The demand for AI-ready data centres is high, and this investment will help CtrlS meet that demand while setting new benchmarks for the industry. CtrlS Datacenters founder and CEO, Sridhar Pinnapureddy, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that it will not only expand capacity but also establish the standard for AI-ready infrastructure in one of the world's most significant digital markets.
The investment from CPP Investments is part of a broader strategy to expand its presence in India, a country that has been a key focus for the fund since its first investment in 2009. With over ₹1,850 billion (C$27 billion) in net assets in India as of March 31, 2026, CPP Investments is a significant player in the Indian market. The fund's expertise in the global data centre sector, combined with its local platform strength, positions it well to support CtrlS's growth and contribute to the development of India's digital infrastructure.
This partnership is a win-win situation for both parties, with CtrlS gaining access to the necessary capital to expand its operations and CPP Investments strengthening its position in a key growth market. The joint venture will likely lead to the creation of state-of-the-art data centre campuses, further enhancing India's digital infrastructure and supporting the country's digital transformation agenda. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, such strategic partnerships will play a crucial role in shaping the future of data centre development and innovation.
